June is Men’s Health Month: Help Your Father Stay Fit

This month, we celebrate the important roles that the men in our lives play. As your search for the right gift for your Dad this year, consider a non-traditional gift for Father’s Day. We recommend that as you give back to Dad that you give him the gift of health and wellness, providing him years of happiness and health to come. During Men’s Health Month this June, we brings awareness to the many ways men can improve and lengthen their lives by focusing on:

  • Physical Health

  • Heart Health

  • Healthy Eating Habits

As Father’s Day approaches, let’s ensure we do our part to set Dad up for success and healthy living for years to come!

Fit Fathers

Physical health affects every aspect of your health. It's never too late to improve your exercise routine, whether you live an active or sedentary lifestyle. The American College of Sports Medicine has reported that moderate-intensity aerobic activity is recommended for 30 minutes a day or five times per week for 150 minutes every week. Along with muscle-strengthening activities two times a week, you can live a healthy life, free of medical complications due to lack of activity.

Aerobic Activities to Stay Fit

  • Brisk walk

  • Running

  • Jogging

  • Swimming

  • Exercise bike

  • Elliptical use

  • Biking outdoors

Muscle Strengthening Activities for Your Father

  • Push-ups

  • Sit-ups

  • Planks

  • Chest Press

  • Shoulder Press

  • Bicep Curls

After implementing new exercise into your schedule, expect discomfort, strain, and soreness in your muscles. Be sure to have Dad talk to your Evolve Health Services Pharmacist to get an individualized OTC and supplement recommendation at your next visit. Your Evolve Health Services Pharmacist can make recommendations to help Dad:

  • Recover faster from his workouts

  • Deal with muscle cramps

  • Get adequate rest in-between visits to the gym

  • Maximize his exercise potential

To keep dad healthy and fit, have him book a Fitness OTC & Supplement Consultation at Evolve Health Services.

Men Have Hearts Too

You can prevent Cardiovascular/Heart disease by keeping Dad’s heart healthy. Proper blood flow carries oxygen to the body and carries away harmful waste that lead to a variety of medical issues. Heart disease can develop due to issues with blood vessels, blood clots, or even the heart itself. After a Heart Health conversation with your Evolve Health Services Pharmacist these risks can all be prevented. If Dad takes any blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, or high cholesterol medications, Dad needs to learn about the best action to take as soon as possible. Heart Health consultations are essential to his health, even if he doesn’t routinely use medications. There are several OTC items at your pharmacy that can help Dad’s heart health which include:

We always recommend a visit with a healthcare provider when it comes to better understanding your supplement needs. While picking these up at Evolve Health Services, Dad can book a Heart Health Conversation to discuss medications and other ways to maintain his heart health.

Healthy Meal Choices for Dad

A crucial component of healthy living is ensuring a consistently balanced diet. Food is essential fuel for the body but some foods can be detrimental to your health. While Dad can still enjoy his favorite foods, he must also consider his life-long health with his food choices. When Dad eats healthfully, he enjoys:

  • Optimized heart health

  • Improved cholesterol control

  • Increased exercise endurance

  • Better sleep

No matter what Dad likes to eat, your Evolve Health Services Pharmacist can help make sure Dad is knowledgeable about the best foods to preserve his health. A Healthy Plate Consultation will help Dad:

  • Make better food choices

  • Plan healthy meals for the family

  • Learn what foods are best to prevent heart disease

  • Be aware of what foods can affect cholesterol levels

This Father’s Day, avoid traditional gifts for Dad and help support Dad on his fitness and diet journey to promote his life-long health!
